The Palace on Wheels is a luxury train that takes you on a scintillating journey into the royal land of sand dunes and regal palaces. It is one of a kind experience and is also voted as the 4th best luxury train in the world. The Palace on Wheels is known for its intrinsic ambience that goes perfectly well with the mesmerising charm and beauty spread so amazingly across the Indian terrain. The journey to the hinterland of the desert begins every Wednesday evening from New Delhi and ends the following Wednesday early in the morning, back at the same station from where the journey started. In the span of 7 Nights/8 Days the train traverses over 3000 kilometers (or 1850 miles). On the Palace on Wheels, your journey will be filled with luxurious & royal experience. On board, the Palace on Wheels gives the perfect chance to the travel enthusiasts to relive the era when kings and queens ruled; when royalty spelt magic; when charm and mysticism was all around. This outstanding train has 39 Deluxe Cabins and 2 Super Deluxe Cabins with a total capacity of 82 passengers. The train is well equipped with amenities like air-conditioning with each cabin having attached toilets, Wi-Fi, mini pantry, music channel, a safe, wall to wall carpeting and additionally all the precautions and safety/cleanliness measures are taken for the safe trip because of coronavirus. Each saloon also has a personal attendant, also known as khidmatgars, at your service. Each of the carriages are uniquely named after popular palaces & forts of Rajasthan. The interiors of the cabins are in hues of ruby, turquoise or pearl. Moreover, there are restro bar lounges on the train & an ayurvedic spa facility for the travellers to relax and rejuvenate. Complimentary Wi-Fi services are also available through sharing dongles. The two ding cars are known as Maharaja & Maharani & the attached Kitchen Saloon serves freshly cooked international cuisine. The major concept of India’s first luxury train tour is all about overnight travel in comfortable AC sleeping chambers and pre-arranged group sightseeing in the day by AC buses to offer exclusive experience. 

ITINERARY

Day 1 (Wednesday): New Delhi Depart
Report to Safdarjung Railway Station by 4:30PM for traditional welcome including garlanding, tikka and turban & be prepared for the check-in formalities for the ‘Week in Wonderland’ train tour. Time free for photo-shoot with traditionally attired Palace On Wheels staff. You will be escorted to your saloon cabins by a personal attendant for briefing on cabin facilities. At leisure, proceed to the Bar Lounge for complimentary welcome drinks. The train departs  will finally depart at 6:30PM & dinner will be served onboard.

Day 2 (Thursday): Jaipur, The Pink City
Enjoy breakfast onboard followed by a royal elephant welcome at Jaipur Railway Station. After that, proceed to visit St. Albert Museum, Pink City Palace & UNESCO World Heritage Site of Jantar Mantar (sun observatory). Photo stop at Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds) then sightseeing tour of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hill Fort Palace of Amber in the afternoon and enjoy elephant ride there. Satisfy your hunger pangs at the 1135 AD Boutique Restaurant, located in Fort premises. Once done, explore the charm of well preserved Fort Palace which is known for amalgamation of Rajput and Mughal architecture. Around 5.00PM explore the local market for shopping. Return to Palace on Wheels train around 6:00PM & depart for the next destination. Dinner is served on-board.

Day 3 (Friday Early Morning): Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve
After an early morning breakfast at 6:30AM in a forest lodge, you will be taken for jungle safari in 15-seater canters inside Ranthambore Tiger Reserve. It is a very popular attraction in India and one of the most famous reserves in India with a rich history; the jungle is home to tigers, panthers, sloth bears, pythons, marsh crocodiles, hundreds of deers and birds. It is a true delight for wildlife lovers. Return back to Sawai Madhopur Railway Station and depart on the train by 10:00 AM. Lunch is prepared onboard.

Day 3 (Friday Afternoon): Chittorgarh Hill Fort
Palace on Wheels train  will reach Chittorgarh Railway Station at 4:00PM. Begin your excursion to UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hill Fort of Chittorgarh, spread over a huge plateau with history dating back to the 11th century. It is one of the largest forts in India. Enjoy the Sound & Light program in the fort complex  in the evening and later return to your luxurious train for dinner. The train departs post-midnight.

Day 4 (Saturday): Udaipur, the City of Lakes
At 8AM the train will arrive in Udaipur. Enjoy onboard breakfast & proceed to visit 17th Century City Palace complex with eleven constituent Mahals, balconies and towers. Also, visit Crystal Gallery - housing the personal collection of H.H. of Udaipur. Once the excursion is complete, enjoy a boat ride around the world famous "Lake Palace Hotel" located on a small island in the middle of Lake Pichola. Have your lunch at the majestic Fatehprakash Palace Hotel. Later, you can enjoy free time for shopping in local markets, followed by a visit to the Royal Gardens at Saheliyon Ki Bari. By 3PM return to the train for the departure. Dinner onboard.

Day 5 (Sunday): Jaisalmer, Oasis in the Desert
Have breakfast onboard & proceed by 9:30AM to UNESCO World Heritage Site - Jaisalmer Fort, which seems straight out of an Arabian Nights fable. Enjoy a leisurely walk through the 15th century built living fort complex, standing at a height of hundred meters over Jaisalmer town & glows golden in the light of afternoon sun. After that - visit Patwon ki Haveli, one of the largest and most elaborate mansion houses, which is five storeys high & carved beautifully. Apart from this, nearby the location is Jain Temples, which are beautifully carved & have a library hosting some of the oldest manuscripts of India. After exploring the attractions, proceed for lunch to a 5-Star hotel & later return to the train for tea and relax for a while. At 4:30PM proceed for an excursion to Sam Sand Dunes in Thar Desert for an unforgettable camel joy ride during sunset. Later enjoy the cultural program & dinner at 5-Star Hotel. Return back to the train till 10:00PM & depart.

Day 6 (Monday): Jodhpur, Heart of Marwar
At 08:00 AM the train will arrive in Jodhpur, enjoy on-board breakfast and after that proceed for sightseeing of Mehrangarh Fort located atop a rocky hill. Also, explore the fort museum as it has a wide & impressive collection of royal dresses & medieval weapons. Visit the nearby attractions like Jaswant Thada, a cluster of royal cenotaphs in white marble. Later visit the museum at Umaid Bhawan Palace. Enjoy lunch at Hanwant Mahal Boutique Restaurant. Return back to Palace on Wheels train and depart by 3:30PM. Dinner will be served on-board.

Day 7 (Tuesday Early Morning): Bhatarpur Bird Sanctuary
In the morning proceed to UNESCO World Heritage Site of Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary & enjoy a cycle rickshaw ride there. Return to the train for breakfast & depart by 08:45 AM.

Day 7 (Tuesday Noon): Agra, City of the Taj Mahal
The train will drop you at the Railway station on the outskirts of Agra at 10:30 AM. The sightseeing tour starts with a visit to Agra Fort. Lunch at ITC Mughal Hotel is followed by a visit to the marvelous Taj Mahal, one of seven wonders of the world, the major highlights and history associated with Taj Mahal will be explained by a tour guide. Afterwards, enjoy free time while exploring the local markets, enjoy local street food or enjoy shopping. You can also buy souvenirs to give to your near and dear ones. Later, return to the train for onboard dinner & depart.

Day 8 (Wednesday): New Delhi Return
The Palace on Wheels train will return to Delhi’s Safdarjung Railway Station by 05:30AM. Check-out by 07:15 AM after early breakfast.
