Cultural Etiquette

Dress Code - While Abu Dhabi is more liberal compared to other parts of the UAE, it’s advisable to dress modestly, especially when visiting religious sites.

Behaviour - Public displays of affection are frowned upon. Be mindful of local customs and traditions.

Alcohol Laws - Alcohol is only available in licensed venues such as hotels and restaurants. Drinking in public places is prohibited.

Photography - Always ask permission before taking photos of people, especially women. Avoid photographing government buildings and military sites.

Transportation

Taxis are readily available in Abu Dhabi and relatively inexpensive. Uber and local apps like Careem are also popular. The city has an efficient bus network; you can check schedules and routes on the Abu Dhabi Department of Transport website. Renting a car is a good option for exploring beyond the city. Driving is on the right-hand side of the road.

Shopping

Abu Dhabi has numerous shopping malls like Marina Mall, Yas Mall, and The Galleria for luxury shopping and entertainment. For a more traditional shopping experience, visit the various souks such as the Carpet Souk and Gold Souk.

Use sunscreen, wear hats, and sunglasses to protect yourself from the strong sun.
Lightweight, loose-fitting, and breathable clothing is best. In cooler months, a light jacket or sweater might be needed in the evenings.
