Lombok Holidays

Lombok is a hidden gem of Indonesia, less visited than its neighbouring island Bali with next to no tourist crowds, so you can enjoy an authentic travel experience here. The gorgeous, laid-back island offers beautiful beaches, colourful marine species, a melting pot of cultures, natural wonders, year-round festivals, and incredible surfing opportunities, to name a few. Brightsun Travel offers great value luxury holidays to Lombok, allowing you to experience all of this and more.

Trekking is a popular activity in Lombok; Gunung Rinjani, the second-highest volcano in Indonesia dominates the island with slopes amidst tropical settings, offering various trekking options. There are also many traditional villages in Lombok, some of which are home to the native Sasak tribe; Tetebatu Village has been inhabited by the Sasak for a long period of time, so is an ideal place to learn about this traditional culture.

Local Information & Travel Tips

Transportation

The island has a well-connected network of roads, and renting a scooter or motorbike is a popular option for exploring at your own pace. Taxis and private drivers are also available and can be arranged through hotels or local services. Public bemos (minibusses) provide a budget-friendly, albeit slower, way to get around. For inter-island travel, fast boats connect Lombok with Bali and the nearby Gili Islands.

Visa Requirements

Most nationalities receive a free tourist visa on arrival, valid for 30 days. Check your eligibility and ensure your passport has at least six months of validity beyond your planned departure date. For up-to-date travel advice and health recommendations visit the government’s travel advice for Indonesia.

Safety Tips

Lombok is generally safe for tourists, but it's important to stay cautious. Keep your belongings secure and be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas or tourist hotspots. Petty theft can occur, so avoid displaying valuables openly. When renting scooters or motorbikes, always wear a helmet and drive carefully.

Local Culture, Traditions, and Customs

Lombok is predominantly Muslim, and visitors should respect local customs and traditions. Dress modestly, especially when visiting religious sites or rural areas. When entering a mosque, ensure you cover your shoulders and knees.

Etiquette

Tipping is not obligatory but is appreciated for good service; a 10% tip is customary in restaurants. When giving or receiving items, use your right hand or both hands as a sign of respect.
