Mombasa

Mombasa is one of Africa’s most immense cities, offering a wonderful mixture of rich cultures, unique wildlife, exotic cuisine, and exciting tourist attractions. This enticing Kenyan city borders the Indian Ocean, so some of Africa’s most spectacular coastlines can be found here, with beaches boasting pristine white sands, lush palm groves, tropical flora, and turquoise waters. Diani Beach is one of the city’s most popular beaches home to a diverse array of accommodation options, bars, and restaurants, plus fun-filled water sports.

As well as boasting beautiful coastlines, Mombasa is also steeped in rich culture and history. There is a blend of African, Arabian, Asian, and European cultures which can be witnessed throughout the city’s architecture, museums, and also its food; sample an endless choice of dishes made with exotic ingredients and spices. To really immerse yourself in the cultural heritage of Mombasa, visit the Old Town, home to narrow winding streets lined with antique shops, cosy cafés, and historical buildings.

Mombasa is the epicentre of adventure travel with a plethora of wildlife safari tour opportunities. The city also has a vibrant nightlife with boundless night spots, from live music venues to clubs, hotel lounges, and casinos. Why not visit during one of the city’s colourful festivals? Nairobi

Nairobi is Kenya’s capital and largest city and also one of the most colourful with bustling street markets, a dynamic night scene with plenty of bars and clubs, delicious African street snacks, beautiful green spaces, charming colonial buildings, cultural museums, and so much more. Brightsun Travel offers a great choice of cheap holidays to Nairobi, including seven night packages to premium four and five star hotels.

Nairobi is a superb cultural centre with a rich heritage worth delving into. We recommend that you take a day out to explore the city’s museums, and the Bomas of Kenya is a great place to start; this remodelled Kenyan village contains preserved artefacts displayed in traditional Boma homes, allowing an insight into the ethnic tribes of Kenya. Another excellent museum is the Nairobi National Museum, which is dedicated to the nature, art, history, and culture of Kenya.

Nairobi is a common base location for safari experiences, as it’s the only capital city in the world with a safari park upon its borders – the Nairobi National Park protects more than 400 species of wildlife and is home to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust which protects endangered wildlife and operates a rescue programme for orphaned elephants. Just 40 minutes from Nairobi’s city centre is the Giraffe Centre, where you can encounter the endangered Rothschild's giraffe.
