Our Fun FAM Trip Adventure in Munich, the Charming Bavarian Capital

Some of the Brightsun team and I enjoyed a familiarization trip to Munich with Lufthansa which was hosted by Munich Airport, and involved visits to immersive attractions and experiencing the Bavarian culture.

I have recently returned from Munich, the capital of Bavaria in Germany and would like to share some of my trip highlights that may inspire you to visit here yourself one day. This wonderful city is renowned for its delicious Bavarian delicacies, some of the country’s best beers and breweries, historic sightseeing landmarks and its incredible international airport which is considered as one of the best in the world. Munich itself welcomes 35 million guests each year!

The team and I departed from London Heathrow Terminal 2 and indulged with a delicious breakfast at the Lufthansa Business Lounge which comprised of a hot and cold buffet and an extensive drinks selection. The lounge itself was very modern and spacious with separate work/relaxation areas. We then boarded our flight aboard the A320 NEO-200 aircraft; we were very impressed with the leg room in Economy Class, the complimentary drinks service and the delicious cookie snack that we received.

Upon arrival at Munich Airport, a Lufthansa airport hub we were greeted by a lovely Munich Airport representative who welcomed us with cute gingerbread cookies - it’s the little things in life! She took us on an educational tour across the airport terminal and check-in areas, lounges and attractions which currently includes the festive Christmas market; we enjoyed lunch and mulled wine here. We were so impressed with the airport; it boasts the world’s only airport brewery Airbräu, over 150 shops and modern sleeping pods. It’s certainly a destination in itself.

During our trip we based our stay at the Mercure Hotel Muenchen City Center hotel, a boutique style 4 star property which offers an excellent central location, within walking distance from the Munich Central train station and around 45 minutes from Munich airport. The rooms are stylish and spacious with a complimentary mini bar which was a nice touch. The hotel has a cosy lounge bar with comfortable seating and a very tasty and extensive breakfast buffet service - the freshly baked croissants were a highlight!

The first attraction we visited in Munich was the BMW Welt which was splendid. We were taken on a guided tour across the venue which is set in the vicinity of the BMW factory and headquarters, and were introduced to a number of seriously trendy cars, some of which we got to sit in and get a feel of. After the tour we were treated to a dinner at the Bavarie restaurant on site which serves traditional cuisine including the classic German schnitzel.

On our second day in Munich we started off with a tour at the Allianz Arena, the home of the Bayern Munich football team and the most famous stadium in Germany. We got to visit the dressing rooms, shower areas, trophies and a memorial and experienced some of the fun facilities which are great for children; there was a mini football pitch that you can test your goal scoring skills at, a lego station, colouring activities and a children’s play area. The tour itself was very informative.

We then headed to the city centre for a culinary city tour which was hosted by Cookionista. We were taken to a few popular dining spots during this fantastic and unique tour to sample local snacks such as weisswurst, pretzels, cheeses and pastries, plus tasty Bavarian beers. We were also shown around some famous sightseeing attractions, beer halls and the Viktualienmarkt - the city’s most popular market. This tour was the best highlight for me as I felt that the team and I were able to experience the Bavarian culture for ourselves. A culinary tour is my kind of tour!

The remainder of our day was spent at the Paulaner Nockherberg, one of the traditional beer halls of Munich which comprised of a brewery tour to which we became beer experts and some local beer tasting. The house brewed beer at Paulaner Nockherberg is exclusively served at this venue only, so it felt like a very authentic experience. It’s a popular attraction during Munich’s Oktoberfest celebrations, when thousands flock to the city for lots of festive celebrations, dancing and of course, beer!

Our flight back to Heathrow from Munich was a mid-morning service and before departure we visited and spent time in the Lufthansa Business Lounge, which is located at Terminal 2 near gates G-L. We had already eaten breakfast at the hotel before check-out but couldn’t say no to the tempting snacks that were on offer which included pretzels, marble cake and crisps (pictured below) as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The lounge caters for all in that sense, no matter what time of day you visit.

Our FAM trip to Munich was filled with lots of wonderful experiences and I would definitely recommend it as a travel destination.
