In an ever-changing Arabian gulf, Oman retains its traditional charm and Bedouin values at heart. It is famous for its ancient aflaj oases irrigation system, terraced orchards (Jebel Akhdar), ornate adobe fortresses, numerous mosques, wadis (stream valleys), dhows (traditional Arabian sailing ships), and of course, Al Said, the world's third-largest yacht, owned by the Sultan. The unique culture and everyday lives of people living here is deeply steeped in the religion of Islam. Oman has its own unique subsect of Islam known as Ibadhism but other forms of Islam such as Sunni and Shia are also practiced here.
