Things You Should Pack on a Trip to Dubai
Planning to visit dazzling Dubai? Don’t forget to bring these items…
If the Middle East is somewhere you’ve always wanted to visit, then Dubai is a great starting point. This incredible UAE city is like something from the future with its mega malls, luxurious hotels with opulent spas and innovative attractions, but it has also preserved its rich Arabic heritage with centuries old traditions and conservative customs. It therefore can be tricky working out what to pack on a trip here which often leaves holidaymakers hesitant on taking the plunge and visiting. We’ve put together a little guide on what you’ll need to pack for Dubai whichever time of year you visit.
Plenty of High Factor Sun Cream
Dubai is a sizzling hot country all year round, especially in the summer months when temperatures go up to 50 degrees Celsius. You will need sun cream! Even if you tan well, we suggest going for at least factor 50. The sun beams constantly during the day here which will inevitably lead to harmful UV levels and sunburn, so do bring plenty of lotion, reapply often and take a small bottle in a bag with you everywhere. There’s no getting away from the Dubai sun!
A Hat & Sunglasses
These necessities will help further protect you from excessive sun exposure and a hat covers your scalp which will probably get burnt here. Dubai is a very stylish city so you could treat yourself to a nice new hat which will add some flair to your outfit whilst protecting you. You could even pack a few hats, one for each day maybe! Another crucial item whilst in Dubai is sunglasses, which also can be used as a fashion statement whilst protecting your eyes from the UV rays.
Comfortable Footwear & Insoles for Your Shoes
Dubai is home to a plethora of fun attractions and adventure options so at some point in your trip you’re bound to do a bit of exploring. We recommend that you bring some comfortable cushioned footwear, maybe a pair of trainers or plimsoles. In addition to this, do make sure you bring some washable insoles which will let your feet breathe a bit on the go, especially when it’s uncomfortably hot.
Conservative Clothing
At your hotel there won’t really be any restrictions on what you can wear, however when out and about you should dress modestly and respect the local UAE customs; women are advised to cover their shoulders, chest and thighs. If you want to explore the city’s religious sites which we recommend as they are absolutely stunning, it is mandatory to cover your knees and shoulders and women have to cover their hair. Veils are normally provided, or you could alternatively pack a scarf.
Your Best Outfit
Dubai is renowned for its glamorous appeal and is very fashion-forward, so this gives you the perfect opportunity to dig out your most glitzy outfit and dress your best. Dress codes here are generally smart casual, on the smarter side more so than casual. Women, bring some nice heels and your favourite lipstick and men, bring some smart shoes, trousers and shirts. Do remember to be mindful about keeping conservative in public though, even if it’s wearing a light jacket over your outfit.
A Digital Camera
Despite recent technology developments, your phone camera will not do the gems of this city justice. There are some incredible photo opportunities in Dubai, from desert sunsets to skyline vistas beside the ocean. It’s just so breath-taking everywhere you go, so purchasing a high-quality camera is a must. There are some reasonably priced ones in the market and some are even waterproof, which will be a great buy if you want to use it at the beaches and waterparks.
A Travel Adapter
The UAE has a few socket and plug types which can become a bit confusing trying to figure out, so the best thing to do which will save you hassle is purchase a universal travel adapter. Not only is a travel adapter useful for Dubai, it’s also a great investment in your future travel as they last a long time and can be used in other countries around the world. This techno-savvy item will definitely save you money in the long run and will be a godsend on your trip to Dubai.
Cleansing Wipes
The hot, humid Dubai sun will definitely cause some unwanted sweating. This is ok if by the pool as you can just jump in when it gets too much but when you’re out and about on an excursion or doing some shopping or sightseeing, there is no escape. Wipes will therefore come in handy and prevent you from feeling all sticky. Always keep a pack in your bag when out and take relief in a refreshing wipe down; it only takes a minute and can be done discreetly.
Handheld Mini Fan
This one isn’t completely necessary, but it will be a welcome relief when you’re suffering in the humidity and don’t know what to do. A handheld mini fan will be of use when you need it the most and it’s such a small little gadget aswell which you can take around with you.
Swimwear
Last but certainly not least, do ensure you pack a swimsuit or three, as your hotel is more than likely going to have a pool, jacuzzi or spa, there are lots of beaches and beach clubs you can spend the day at and also a great selection of water parks.
