Brightsun Recommends: 40 Best Destinations Around the World

To mark our 40th anniversary, we’re launching a 40 for 40 blog series, honouring four decades of dedication to the most beautiful and inspiring places. We’re kicking things off with 40 truly incredible destinations around the world that should be on your travel bucket list.

1. Marrakech
Marrakech is a city full of colour, noise, and life. As you wander the winding streets of Marrakech, the scent of tagines wafts by from the restaurants while vendors call out for bargains. The city’s palaces are rich with culture and calm, offering a gentle pause from the chaos. At the main square in the medina, you can watch the magic of Marrakech come alive. A stay in a riad is a must, a peaceful sanctuary hidden in the medina.

2. Florence
Florence is a city where love hangs in the air at every turn. Its beauty surrounds you as you wander through the cobbled streets passing by the artists who sit on every corner. It is a must to stop on the Ponte Vecchio Bridge, where the shops are built into the side and the jewellery glistens in the shop windows. End your day at Piazzale Michelangelo, where the panoramic views of Florence below feel like a scene from a dream - it really is a moment in time you’ll never forget. 

3. New York
What isn't there to love about New York? The madness of Times Square, the New Yorkers racing across the city without a glance at the outside world.  You cannot help but become enraptured within the excitement as soon as you arrive. Once you have done as much shopping as you can muster and sightseeing of the iconic landmarks, a walk across the Highline is a must - an abandoned railway track, full of beautiful green spaces. 

4. Grenada

Enjoy a swim in the still waters on Grand Anse Beach, followed by a trek in the rain forest to visit the Severn Sisters waterfall. 5. Hong Kong
Hong Kong is a place which comes alive around you. Take the Star Ferry across the harbour and watch the light show, ride the tram to the top of Victoria Peak with panoramic views of the city below, and experience the cable car to see the Great Buddha and visit Lantau Island. The night market in Temple Street is a clash of cultures that is a must-see, followed by a stroll on the peaceful islands around to bring yourself back to calm.

6. Fetihye
Fetiye is a gorgeous port town in Turkey described as the Turquoise Coast.  A walk around the markets will please all the shoppers, and a stop by the waterfront will offer you a unique opportunity to see the turtles swimming along. Fetiye’s beach resort, Olu Deniz, is a gorgeous coastal spot and a great spot to paraglide. Fetihye is a place full of charm all around. 

7. Lisbon
Lisbon is a beautiful city that is perfect for a short break. When strolling around the main square Praça do Comércio, you’ll discover that each side street is packed with charming shops and cafes where you can people watch to your heart's content. There’s an eclectic mix of areas in the city – top highlights include listening to Fado music in the historic district of Alfama, eating the famous Pastel de Nata in Belum, and visiting the mystical Sintra.  

8. Barcelona
Barcelona is a city of awe. Marvel at the Sagrada Família and visit the iconic Park Guell followed by a walk down La Rambla - at every turn you can absorb yourself in Gaudi's colourful architecture. Stop on the beautiful beaches that encase the city, watching the locals play volleyball.  Don't forget the idyllic sights of the chic Catalan coastal towns; Stiges is definitely worth a visit, just a short train ride away.
