7 Travel Resolutions You Should Make in 2019
Enhance your travel experiences this year!
So it’s that time of year where we aim for new beginnings and form some resolutions. New Year, new me and all that, with diets coming into play and gym memberships being introduced. Some of these resolutions aren’t very enjoyable or motivating to be honest. I for one won’t be cutting out chocolate but I will be thinking about some travel resolutions, which you can do too. What better way to start the year than by setting some travel goals? It’s something to look forward to and most definitely achievable.
1. Book a Holiday
This resolution is very straight forward, but it’s probably the most important one. Everyone deserves a holiday. 2019 is all about self-care, and we work so hard getting through our daily lives and responsibilities that a getaway is always needed – it’s beneficial for our health as it helps us to recharge and rejuvenate. We often hold back on travelling due to financial difficulties or other responsibilities, but if you just remove some luxuries and save up in advance, then a small holiday is achievable. If it does set you back financially, it will always be worth it! Book a holiday, we dare you…

2. Visit Somewhere New
Are you one of those holidaymakers that visits the same destination each year, even to the point of staying at the same resort? Stop right there. I know there’s a fear of disappointment when going somewhere new, and sticking to the same destination is a safe and comfortable choice, but it’s not very fulfilling. In life we do need to step out of our comfort zone a bit. I’m not saying don’t ever go to the same place again, but for this year, why not discover somewhere different and create new memories? It might be daunting and you might not like it, but you won’t regret it. Take the plunge!

3. Send a Post Card
Remember back in the day when we were younger and an exciting part of our holidays was searching for the coolest post card to send back to our friends and family? This concept seems to have faded away in recent years due to innovative technology and social media, and there’s no longer a need to do it. Wouldn’t it be sweet to go back to traditional travel and send a cute little post card? It means a lot more than a snap chat or text message. You’ve hand written something your loved ones can keep forever. You can even buy yourself one as a souvenir and write yourself a message.

4. Unplug From Social Media
Try to avoid social media when you’re on holiday this year. As tempting as it is to post that ‘not a bad Monday’ pool backdrop photo to show off to your mates, is it really necessary? Also, as if we want to know what Sandra is having for dinner or what Gary is moaning about this time, whilst were drinking cocktails by the beach. Turn it off! Social media is such a bad distraction that prevents you from communicating with your travel companions. Disconnect from social media and enjoy your surroundings more. Avoid entering the hotel Wi-Fi password. A holiday is a break from everything… including your phone!

5. Learn a New Skill
Whether it’s learning to do something extraordinary like diving or mountain climbing, or even something as simple as swimming or making a bracelet, learning something new whilst on holiday really stimulates the brain and makes you feel good about yourself, and you can go home with a new skill and great story to tell. You could take a cooking class and come back as a native chef, take to the water and become a surfing expert or attend dance classes to improve your moves – the options are endless. A lot of holiday resorts offer entertainment and educational classes, so make a goal to join one this year and see what happens!

6. Visit Somewhere off the Beaten Track
There are always social media posts about the same old cliché destinations, like gondola rides in Venice, photos by the canal in Amsterdam and swimming with dolphins in the Caribbean. You know, the usual bucket list things. Don’t get me wrong, they are all amazing, but there are so many hidden gems of the world that are just waiting to be explored. For example, instead of the Caribbean you could head to Zanzibar and enjoy tropical paradise without the tourist crowds, and instead of Dubai you can visit a more traditional UAE city like Ras al Khaimah, which is equally as beautiful and if not more charming, not to mention cheaper!

7. Go on a Staycation
There really is no place like home, within your own comfortable surroundings. Have you explored all there is to offer in your home town? Why not spend the day visiting nearby attractions you haven’t experienced yet? Alternatively, if you really can’t go on holiday this year, you could set goals to take time to fully relish your home surroundings in your favourite local hotspots. Go for coffee more often with your best friend at that special cafe, plan more dates with your partner at your favourite local restaurant and spend quality time with your family at the nearest and nicest local park. Remember, 2019 is all about self-care.

2019… Bring it on!
