6 Awesome New Year’s Travel Resolutions for 2021
Forget January diets and exercise hauls - let’s look to future travel and kick start 2021 in style!
It’s almost time to say goodbye to 2020, and… Well… Good riddance! This is usually a time of reflection and making goals for the year ahead, but because we missed out on so much this year, 2021 will hopefully be making up for lost time, especially when it comes to travel. Ugh, all those special trips we missed out on… It’s going to be one hell of year!
We often have things on our minds like: what adventures will the New Year bring? Well why don’t you set that fate for yourself and jot down some travel related resolutions that will help pick you up when you’re feeling the January blues, and will give you something special to look forward to. We’d like to share some of our favourite travel resolutions that you can take forward into 2021…
Celebrate a Birthday Overseas
Most of our birthdays this year have been in lockdown, either tucking into a takeaway or cooking up a nice meal. The novelty of these celebrations has more than worn off now, so for the coming year, you could plan an extra special birthday somewhere overseas and make a weekend or even a week out of it. If you were planning for a party anyway, that takes a lot of time, stress, and expenses, so why not just jet set off somewhere awesome and make it a birthday to remember? You could even plan a surprise birthday celebration abroad for a loved one who you think deserves it.
Save For Your Dream Holiday
What is your ultimate dream getaway? Is it a week-long paradise trip to the Maldives? Have you always wanted to go down under on an unforgettable trip to Australia? Maybe a luxury city break in Dubai? If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that life is too short, so draw a large circle around the top country on your bucket list and make it your goal to visit there, whether it takes months, days, or years, and just start saving - it could be as little as an extra few pennies or pounds a month, but if you start now, each month you’ll be closer to visiting the place of your dreams!
Take a Solo Trip
Have you ever travelled solo? If not, why not make it your goal to do so this year? There’s something really liberating about me time, recharging your batteries and reflecting on life. So what better way for that than to visit somewhere beautiful by yourself, even if it’s just for the weekend. It doesn’t have to be overseas if you’re not comfortable - or if you are, by all means travel half way across the world for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. You’ll discover a whole new side to yourself, push outside of your comfort zone, and enjoy endless freedom with your own personal schedule. A solo holiday will also give you a big boost of confidence, maybe even new friends, and certainly new life experiences.
Learn a New Language
This one is cliché, but actually very important if you plan on travelling to a foreign country where English isn’t the prime language. Become excited for that next adventure by taking up a course in the country’s native tongue, and learn some lines that you may like to use on your trip, like ‘please can I order a large glass of wine’. Duolingo is a free app that you can download which will help you engage with the locals more. There’s no pressure to go all out to learn the entire language (but if you want to that’s amazing) – just pick up a few phrases here and there. Your travel experience will be much more pleasant, and will also be a huge help for when you need to navigate around.
Start a Travel Journal
It’s the little things in life that make the biggest impact, and it’s also the little memories made that you look back on with longing. Why not keep track of these special memories with a journal of your travels? Physically jotting down on pen and paper helps keep your memory alive, and you get to read back in years to come on how you felt at that exact time, helping you to re-live your experiences all over again and giving you a warm fuzzy feeling. Having a journal is also very practical, as you can keep track of your itineraries, and lessons learned along the way.
Visit One of the Iconic Seven Wonders of the World
Have you ever seen for yourself how magnificent the world’s most famous landmarks are up close? There’s nothing quite like it, and taking a backdrop photo by the likes of the Great Wall of China or the Taj Mahal is certainly one for the bucket list. After the really crappy year we’ve all had, wouldn’t it be amazing to make up for it by seeing one of the world’s wonders up close? You could marvel at the Great Pyramid of Giza in Cairo, the historic Machu Picchu and Chichen Itza, Brazil’s towering Christ the Redeemer, or Rome’s stunning Colosseum. Which landmark can you picture yourself next to?
Let’s hope and pray for a better year filled with many extra special memories. We deserve it.
