Onwards to Wariyapola for sightseeing and proceed to Kurunegala. Overnight stay in Kurunegala.
This lingam was made by Rama and therefore it is called the Ramalingam. Rameswaram is the only other lingam in the world named after Lord Rama. In Tamil ‘Mun’ means ‘a long time ago’ and ‘Eeswaran’ means ‘Siva Temple’. This temple was destroyed by the Portuguese. The temple was reconstructed in 1753; later Kumaraswanu Kurukai renovated and reconstructed the temple in 1875. The construction of the Kopuram was completed in 1963. History recounts that Rama, after winning the battle with Rama and Sita King Ravana, started his return journey towards Ayodhya by Pushpaka Vimmana. Sita Laksmana Vibishana and several others accompanied Rama. Brahmahathi Dhosha which arose as a result of killing King Ravana assumed the form of a shadow following him. When the air chariot was passing over the Munneswaram Temple, Rama felt that the Brahmathi Dhosha was leaving. Rama was astonished over this strange feeling which he realized was due to some unknown divine reasons. Rama and others descended on to the ground and performed religious rituals to get rid of the Bramahathi Dhosha.
Day 3:
Proceed to Habarana and visit Ritigala where Lord Rama and Lakshamana were hit by powerful arrows and were severely injured. In order to bring them back to life, Lord Hanuman was instructed to fetch the life-saving herbs from the Himalayas. Hanuman dropped a piece of earth brought from the Himalayas on Sigiriya.
