Day 1: Airport – Kandy (99 km = 3 hrs)
Welcome on arrival & transfer direct to Kandy. Evening city tour of Kandy including a visit to the Temple of the Tooth Relic. In the evening witness a cultural dance show. Dinner & overnight in Kandy.
*Tooth Temple:
Located in Kandy, long a center of the Buddhist faith, the stunning 17th century
Temple of the Tooth (Sri Dalada Maligawa) is believed to house the left upper canine tooth of the Lord Buddha himself. This precious relic attracts white clad pilgrims, bearing lotus blossoms and frangipani, every day.
Day 2: Kandy – Pinnawala (48 km = 1 ½ hrs)
After breakfast at 0700 hours do an excursion to the elephant orphanage at Pinnawala.
*Pinnawala:
This is probably the only one of its' kind and provides shelter to many elephants of all ages, found either abandoned as infants by their herds, or those found wounded in the jungles. The morning and afternoon feeding hours are the best times to visit the orphanage, followed by their two hour long bath in the river across the road from the orphanage.
**On your return to Kandy visit the Royal Botanical gardens at Peradeniya. Dinner & overnight in Kandy.
*Peradeniya:
Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya situated in the outskirts of Kandy. Established in 1816, Pereadeniya Botanical Gardens spans over 147 acres. Flanked by the Mahaweli River, these gardens house all the usual features such as an orchid house, a spice garden etc. But what makes them special is the beautiful and serene layout, and the fine specimens of mature plants and trees which are also home to incredible colonies of flying foxes.
Day 3: Kandy – Nuwara Eliya (77 km = 2 hrs),
After breakfast leave for Nuwara Eliya, on the way visit a tea plantation & a tea factory. Dinner & overnight in Nuwara Eliya.
*Nuwara Eliya:
Set in the heart of the tea country, this beautiful town is where the British succeeded in creating an English countryside with homes in styles from Georgian to Queen Anne. Well kept lawns with hedges, an Anglican Church and the famous golf course and beautiful parks give the place an air of nostalgia. Situated 1890 meters above sea level, the air here is cool and fresh, a serene retreat from the hustle and bustle of Colombo. Close to Nuwara Eliya is Horton Plains, Sri Lanka’s highest and most isolated plateau. Nature lovers will revel in this wide, patnagrass covered plain, the haunt of many wild yet harmless animals and the home of many species of birds.
Day 4: Nuwara Eliya – Negombi Via Colombo (Nuwara Eliya – Colombo/180 km =5 ¼ hrs), (Colombo – Negombo / 35 km = 1 hr)
After breakfast leave for Negombo via Kitulgala & Colombo. On the way visit the location where the “Bridge on the River Kwai” was filmed. Then arrive in Colombo & do a city tour. Thereafter drive to Negombo. Dinner & overnight in Negombo.
*Negombo:
A characteristic fishing town 37 kms. North of Colombo, it is a mere 10 km. from the International airport. Set amid lush groves of coconut palms, it breathes the spirit of the sea. Negombo is a gourmet’s paradise with seafood in plenty. Old World fishing craft like the outrigger canoe and the catamaran bring seer, skipjack, herring and mullet, pomfret and amber jack while lobster and prawns are caught in the lagoon.
Day 5:
Breakfast, Relax, Dinner & overnight in Negombo.
Day 6: Negombo – Airport (15 km = ¼ hrs)
Departure transfer to the airport.
